Advice forYourPatients
With so littleclinical evidenceavailableone-cigarettes,
itmaybedifficult toanswer all of your patients’
questions regarding the safetyandvalidityof
vaporizing. Currently, e-cigaretteuseas a smoking
cessation tool isnot supportedby the federal
government inCanada. And the resultsof a recent
studycomparing theeffectivenessof e-cigarettes
andnicotinepatchesover a6-monthperiodwere
inconclusive.

This suggests e-cigarettesmaynot be
a superior smokingcessationaidcompared tomore
traditional formsofmedication like
nicotinepatches,withe-cigarettes
alsopotentiallyposingadditional
oral health risks.
