There was a small library of donated books. Every night was an opportunity to binge watch movies and TV series that I’d saved onto my computer before arriving because I could not leave the clinic grounds at night for the 2-week duration of my volunteering. The apartment provided for visiting dentists was luxurious and large with a gas-equipped kitchen and a screened-in veranda. The monkeys, I was told, could not be allowed inside because they would destroy everything looking for food! During my stay in mid-November 2023, the weather was terrific. Sunny, warm and dry every day, and cool in the evenings. There were no mosquitoes. But there were foot-long centipedes and lizards that skittered up the walls of the apartment. I hoped the lizards were hunting the centipedes. On the weekend, William, the clinic manager who used to be a safari guide, took me out to spend a day in the Maasai Game Park. I advise people to simply enjoy and fully appreciate the experience. There is no point trying to take photos with your smart phone. If you must document the safari, buy a good point-and-shoot camera that comes There was no expectation that I would see everyone, but I personally could not send anyone away who had waited patiently all day in pain. 30 | 2024 | Issue 4
