A Statistics Canada study published in February 2024 explored how COVID-19 interrupted dental care during the first year of the pandemic. The 2021 Survey on Access to Health Care and Pharmaceuticals During the Pandemic collected information from Canadians age 18 years and older. Respondents were asked whether they needed routine dental care in the previous 12 months, whether they received care, whether they experienced any mouth or tooth pain, and whether COVID-19 affected access to care. Data from this study found that during the first year of the pandemic, some Canadians experienced cancelled or delayed dental services or did not receive the oral health care they needed.
