The views expressed are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or official policies of the Canadian Dental Association. Q How is CDA engaging dentists on this issue? AB: In May, CDA announced the creation of a virtual discussion series to consult with key stakeholders in oral health about how federal investment can best be applied to improve the oral and overall health of underserved Canadians. We are working in partnership with the PTDAs to collect feedback from practising dentists across Canada. CDA is also gathering the views of other stakeholders in oral health, such as the ACDQ in Quebec, allied oral health organizations, dental specialties, dentists providing care to underserved populations and health policy experts. These conversations will provide a forum to harness the expertise of dentists in Canada and the oral health sector, informing CDA’s collaboration with the federal government regarding the new investment in dental care. Q What should we expect on this issue in the coming months? AB: We will continue the conversation with the federal government about making the provinces and territories the administrators of the proposed federal dental plan. Only after that is finalized will it be appropriate to begin considering the cost of providing adequate treatment to the population the federal government wishes to cover. Once those broader decisions have been solidified, we can then start to think about the details. How can CDA and the PTDAs help with the agreements that could be negotiated between the federal government and the provinces and territories? And after that, we can begin to discuss how the program will function for the dentists who are providing dental care to eligible people. 11 Issue 3 | 2022 | CDA atWork Buy 3, get 1 at no additional charge. † • 3M ™ RelyX ™ Luting Plus Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement • 3M ™ RelyX ™ Unicem 2 Self-Adhesive Resin Cement • 3M ™ RelyX ™ Universal Resin Cement 3+1 1 Per application compared to currently available standard automix systems. 2 Compared to currently used automix syringes. 3 Adapted from Dental Advisor, Number of Automix Applications and Mixing Efficiency, M.
