Offered all year round For many years, the DAT was offered across Canada twice a year on specific days in November and February. The new computerized DAT will be offered all year round in 16 professional testing centres across Canada. It is being administered by Prometric, a company specializing in test administration for a variety of professions. After registering for the DAT, eligible candidates can choose when and where they wish to write the test, booking their own test appointment on the testing centre website at prometric.com . Aspiring dental students should register for the DAT approximately 6-8 months before dental schools will need their scores. Once registered, candidates have a 6-month window to write the DAT. They should write the test at least 8 weeks before their scores are required. The scores will be available for download about 4 weeks after the day of the exam. Official transcripts will be automatically sent to the dental schools selected by the candidates. The new registration and testing process for the DAT is described in detail in the DAT Candidate Guide freely available on CDA’s website at cda-adc.ca/dat . “The first thing candidates should do is download and read the DAT Candidate Guide,” says Valentine. “It has all the information about the nature of the test, the fees, the rules around the DAT, the eligibility criteria for the DAT, such as how often candidates can take the test and howmuch time to leave between attempts.” The website also contains an updated FAQ section and the DAT Preparation Manual, which is available for purchase. Registration for the new computer-based DAT opens in March 2022. The scope of the questions, the structure of the test itself and the time you have to complete it will not change, rather it’s the way it is being administered.
