Passionate about dentistry and an advocate at heart, Dr. Tom Raddall has spent his career caring for his patients and the profession. His pragmatic approach, calm demeanor and strong communications skills are hallmarks of his distinguished career. He has served on many committees at the Nova Scotia Dental Association (NSDA), rising to the position of NSDA president. He also served on the provincial dental board, becoming its chair. At CDA, Dr. Raddall served on a number of committees including CDA’s Advocacy Committee where he was a member and chair for close to 20 years. He’s had his finger on the pulse of an ever-changing political landscape and what it means for dentistry. Dr. Raddall has served his profession unselfishly, always with the thought of giving back. His kind and caring nature were always evident and his ability to engage others in productive dialogue contributed to his success on Parliament Hill and with committee members, patients and colleagues. Dr. Raddall has served as a friend and mentor to many who value his wisdom and admire his work ethic. He is one of dentistry’s unsung heroes, always there to help and serve, expecting little but contributing much to his profession. Dr. Tom Raddall Dr. Reginald Goodday is an educator, researcher, surgeon and statesman in the area of oral and maxillofacial surgery and a respected faculty member at Dalhousie University. His expertise in the discipline of orthognathic surgery and the surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea is recognized nationally and internationally. Dr. Goodday has devoted his distinguished career to the outstanding care of his patients, the education of dental students and residents, and to clinical research. He has served on numerous faculty and hospital committees and has been involved at all levels of organized dentistry. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers, has delivered 150 invited presentations, and has mentored and influenced numerous students and residents. Through his teachings, he has influenced the provision of oral surgical services across Canada and around the world. He has also generously volunteered his time to charitable missions in Vietnam where he has treated children with cleft lip and palate. Perhaps his legacy is best expressed by his nominator who stated that “as a former resident, I can proudly say there are many lessons I learned from Dr. Goodday that continue to influence the way I manage patients today, almost 20 years after I completed my residency.” Dr. Reginald Goodday Little did CDA know when Dr. Aaron Burry joined the organization in 2017, that his background and experience as both a public health dentist and administrator would be so valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic. His expertise helped CDA and dentists across the nation adapt to unprecedented change. Dr. Burry has led CDA’s COVID response team and co-chaired CDA’s Practice Recovery Task Force. He shares up-to-date information on the evolution of the pandemic, brings in clinical experts as guest speakers, assesses the impact on dentists and the practise of dentistry, and discusses options for a collective way forward. Dr. Burry has worked tirelessly presenting information to dentists and dental organizations across Canada. His well-informed and reasoned approach on the safest way to practise dentistry in uncertain times has helped guide the profession. The information that he shares has provided insight and perspective to keep current on what is happening in Canada and globally. Without question, Dr. Burry was “the right person, at the right time” to help CDA and the dental profession through the challenges of the pandemic and on what lies ahead.
