Jessica Latimer, a graduate periodontology resident at Harvard University, talked to CDA Oasis about how she uses Instagram, where she has over 13,000 followers, as a vehicle for sharing professionally related information and how her persona as @theperioartist was born. One piece of advice Dr. Latimer would give to aspiring users of Instagram for educational purposes is to decide on a brand and differentiate yourself as a quality knowledge sharer. She works to appeal to different types of learners with her posts. Particularly gratifying for her is that younger colleagues have reached out to her and thanked her for being an inspiring role model. Jeff Williams is the new chair of the Board of Directors of CDSPI. Dr. Williams talked to CDA Oasis about what makes CDSPI unique in the insurance and investment marketplace. Dr. Williams emphasized how CDSPI listens to Canadian dentists and understands their needs. A dentist advisory panel at CDSPI is an important mechanism for communicating the needs, priorities, and preferences of an increasingly diverse profession to CDSPI. The issues raised by the dentist advisory panel are communicated by senior management to the CDSPI Board, which is comprised of two dentists and five experienced business professionals with knowledge of the insurance, investment and information technology worlds.
