G iven the rise in ransomware, hacking, and data theft scams, the protection of IT and data systems is more important than ever, particularly in the health care setting. Anne Genge, a privacy and security expert from Alexio Corporation, teamed with CDA Oasis on a series of mini-workshops that address privacy and security in the dental office. The short videos (<10 mins) include checklists and assessments to help break down the complexity of cybersecurity into bite-sized, task-oriented pieces delivering an overall plan to close the gaps in privacy and security in a dental practice. “We are going to address all of the privacy and security challenges that dental offices have. Simplify it. Try to make it fun but give tangible takeaways in each session,” says Genge. Topics covered in the series include Ransomware Vulnerability Assessment, Workstation Security Checklist, Risk Management Considerations, and more. D r. Kevin Walsh of Windsor, Nova Scotia, talks to CDA about the breathtaking experience of climbing Mount Everest. Dr. Walsh took many photos on his trip, and he shares the sights he encountered on this journey through a selection of his images. Besides the experience of being “on top of the world,” he describes his preparation over a two-year period, the process of getting from base camp to the summit and back down again.
