Honorary Membership Award An outstanding contribution to the dental profession including a breadth and scope of achievement. A dental graduate from the University of Alberta, Dr. McFadden received his Master of Science degree from Dalhousie University and went on to a residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. His travels took him to Manitoba where he has been a driving force at the provincial level. In addition to having an active private practice, he is an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba faculty of dentistry and has served on many committees at the Manitoba Dental Association rising to the position of president in 2005. He has served as president of the Manitoba and Canadian Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as the Medical Staff Association at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, and the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. In 2018, he was appointed registrar of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Leland McFadden Dr. Mary McNally Dr. McNally has focused her career on public health and the ethical treatment of patients. She obtained her dental degree from Dalhousie University as well a Master of Science degree in Pathology and Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from Dalhousie. She is a professor in the faculties of dentistry and medicine at Dalhousie with a cross appointment in the department of bioethics where she collaborates in health ethical service and ethical research. Much of Dr. McNally’s career has focused on oral health promotion, prevention and health care ethics with a focus on social justice and access to care for priority populations. This includes frail older adults, Indigenous people living in Atlantic Canada, immigrants and refugees. She remains active in numerous professional associations including the American Dental Education Association, the International Association of Dental Research, the Canadian Bioethics Society, and the Nova Scotia Dental Association. At CDA, she has served on the Ethics Committee, Clinical and Scientific Affairs Committee, and Access to Care Working Group. Distinguished Service Award Recognizes outstanding contributions to the dental profession, the dental community or the oral health of Canadians at large. Dr. Anne Dale Dr. Dale completed her dental degree at the University of Toronto (U of T) and went on to Harvard University at the Forsyth Dental Infirmary for Children for post-doctoral studies in endodontics and microbiology. She returned to U of T to teach histology, microbiology, dental pathology, oral anatomy and occlusion, dental material science and restorative dentistry. Her clinical teaching skills were exemplary; her lectures included stories about the links between science and art. Dr. Dale’s passion for dental artifacts and her contributions to the U of T faculty of dentistry museum are significant. Her contributions to major milestone celebrations in organized dentistry such as the Ontario Dental Association’s 100, 125 and 150th anniversaries were invaluable. Dr. Dale’s career has shown that compassion can motivate the pursuit of excellence and does not detract from one’s intellect and ability. 13 Issue 7 | 2020 | CDA at W ork
