He also wrote a dental lifetime earnings model based on the observations of over 6,000 dentists to assist dentists in optimizing work/life balance decisions. Since 2010, Dr. Armstrong has been an adjunct professor at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, where he is the co-program developer, with Boardman, and co‑academic director of the Certificate in Dental Practice Management. Prior to Sauder, he was an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Business Administration at SFU, where he co-organized the Advanced Business Management Program for Dentists. He publishes articles about practice management in business journals. “Many people who are successful at business do not like to share the keys to their success,” says Boardman. “But Jim is very open and willingly shares his expertise, both in dental organizations and in teaching programs.” Dr. Armstrong has been involved in organized dentistry for many years, serving on numerous committees and task forces at the provincial and national levels and as president of the BCDA. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists. “Jim leads by example,” says Dr. Ward. “No one works harder than him or is more informed. He’s passionate about new ideas. He thinks a lot about how to make things work better and run more efficiently.” Dr. Armstrong and his wife Kathleen live in West Vancouver and have four children, including daughter Zoe-Ann, who passed away, after her 4th heart surgery, due to congenital heart issues. “Jim leads by example, no one works harder than him or is more informed.
