Her dissertation involved clinical research on gene expression of Crouzon Syndrome in families. “As a proud alumna of IU, I am eager to serve the school of dentistry, the university, the state of Indiana and the dental profession in this new role. The school’s mission and core values resonate deeply with my own in the education of the finest dental professionals, the promotion of ground-breaking research, and the cultivation of innovative practices to advance oral health and overall health,” says Dr. Murdoch-Kinch. Dr. Murdoch-Kinch received her DDS from Dalhousie University’s faculty of dentistry in 1985. The daughter of Dr. Fred Murdoch, also a Dalhousie dentistry graduate, Dr. Murdoch-Kinch grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick, and arrived in Halifax to study dentistry in 1981. “When I was at Dal in the 1980s, it was a leader in innovative dental education. The focus was on active and engaged learning, team-based care, competency- based education, using data and computers to track learning and patient care, evidence-based clinical decision making, and evidence-based teaching and assessments,” says Dr. Murdoch-Kinch. “It was way ahead of its time. There’s a reason Dal was awarded the Gies Award for Achievement in 2012! When I went to the U.S. to study and work, other universities wanted to teach in these ways but felt it couldn’t be done. But I know it can be done because that’s what I saw and experienced as a student at Dal.” a Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch Named Dean of Indiana University School of Dentistry Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch, was named dean of the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD), officially taking on this role in July 2019.
