As Chair of the CDA Future of the Profession Task Force, Dr. Nicoll’s guidance was instrumental to the success of the task force, whose report and recommendations provide a bold vision for shaping the future of dentistry. I amboth humbled and flattered to receive this award. To be recognized by my peers in this way for doing something that I truly love to do is a highlight. There are many that I would like to thank, but I want to single out one very special group: the 25 members of the Task Force on the Future of Dentistry, a remarkable and diverse group of individuals who worked so very hard, who deliberated so thoughtfully and with remarkable wisdomput together a vision of the future.”  CDA Honorary Membership Award Honorary Membership is given to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the dental profession, the dental community or the oral health of Canadians over a sustained period of time at the academic, corporate, specialty society, council, commission or committee level. The breadth and scope of achievement is a significant factor in determining this award. Dr. Brian Barrett has been a driving force in Prince Edward Island (PEI) dentistry for over 40 years, where he has served in almost every leadership capacity, including registrar of the PEI Dental Council, secretary/treasurer and executive director of the Dental Association of PEI. As national dental advisor for Veterans Affairs Canada and representative on the Federal Dental Care Advisory Committee, he brought dentistry’s perspective to the table. I’d like to thank CDA for this honour. I’ve been doing this for a long time and people sometimes wonder if these awards mean anything to the people who get them—and I have to tell you that they certainly do! This means a lot tome. I want to thank all the executive directors I’ve known over the last 40 years across Canada who have become great personal friends. When we sit down together, we invariably get a laugh and share stories from the past many years.” Dr. Alastair Nicoll Dr. Brian Barrett Every year, CDA honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the dental profession and the oral health of Canadians.
