Gies Awards for Vision, Innovation and Achievement were presented in March, during the 2019 American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session & Exhibition in Chicago. Gies Award for Innovation – Public or Private Partner Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry (ACFD) The ACFD was recognized for the contribution made by its Academic Affairs Committee (notably Drs. Anne Charbonneau, Marie Dagenais, Sylvie Morin and Joanne Walton) in creating the ACFD Educational Framework for the Development of Competency in Dental Programs. Gies Award for Vision – Academic Dental Institution McGill University Faculty of Dentistry McGill’s faculty of dentistry was recognized for its Service in the Community Program, which provides free dental care for Montreal’s underserved populations. The program helps students and residents identify the needs of vulnerable groups in the community and undertake initiatives to better serve them. ADEA/ADEAGies Foundation Dr. Anthony R. Volpe Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute Dr. Maryam Amin , University of Alberta, School of Dentistry The Volpe scholarship provides an annual opportunity for one mid-career dental school educator who has shown evidence of leadership potential and has been accepted into the ADEA Leadership Institute. ADEA/ADEAGies Foundation Education Fellowship Dr. Laura Dempster, University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry This fellowship is designed to familiarize dental educators with a broad range of timely educational issues facing dental education. Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors Citations Dr. Daniel A. Haas , University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry (l.) Dr. Paul J. Allison , McGill University, Faculty of Dentistry (r.)
