In December, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health, announced that $850,000 will be granted to the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research (NCOHR) through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), to support its continuous work towards improving the oral health of Canadians. The minister noted that maintaining good oral health translates into overall health and well-being, and was proud to support the contributions of this team of researchers. The Network comprises over 440 members across Canada, including researchers from a variety of backgrounds, students actively involved in oral health research, dental professionals, and more. Led by Dr. Alain Moreau, professor and researcher at the University of Montreal and CHU Sainte-Justine, NCOHR is intended to foster collaboration between interdisciplinary research teams, offer training, share ideas and resources with the research community, and find ways to convert research findings into practice. “This new funding will take advantage of the transformative and integrated university-hospital-patients-stakeholder- industry framework of NCOHR to shape the future of oral health research,” says Dr. Moreau. “In the next stage of the Network’s life cycle, our programs and activities will be guided by three main themes: (1) talent development, (2) creation of new collaborative interdisciplinary research teams and (3) translating discoveries to health innovations and better oral health care,” he adds. a This new funding will take advantage of the transformative and integrated university-hospital-patients-stakeholder-industry framework of NCOHR to shape the future of oral health research. – Dr. Alain Moreau ➊ Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Health (l.), touring an operatory at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Centre in Montreal. ➋ Several leaders in the Canadian oral health research community were on hand for the funding announcement in December 2017. ➊ ➋
