18 | 2017 | Issue 6 N ews and E vents Dr. Douglas Brothwell NewDean of Dentistry at University of Saskatchewan Dr. Brothwell’s career path has been linked to the College of Dentistry since his student years. “I am a U of S graduate (DMD 1984), and I started my career as a dentist in Saskatchewan. This is full circle and I relish the opportunity to continue my career here and share what I’ve learned with future generations,” he said. Dr. Brothwell specialized in dental public health at the University of Toronto, and he also earned an undergraduate degree in education from the University of Saskatchewan. He intends to put his multi- faceted expertise and experience to good use, as he looks forward to “working with students to ensure the educational program only continues to improve. I will also work with the college faculty and staff in order to fulfill our larger university role with regard to research and service to the community.” Dr. Douglas Brothwell Announcements Dr. Brothwell comes to the University of Saskatchewan with 18 years of experience in academia, and after serving as associate dean (academic) at the University of Manitoba. At the national level, he is a past chair and member of the CDA Seal Committee, and a past president of the Canadian Association of Public Health Dentistry (2009–11). a Dr. Douglas Brothwell has been appointed dean of the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry for a 5-year term, effective September 1, 2017.
