Cover:Dr. Marcia Boyd of Vancouver is featured on this month's cover of JCDA. Dr. Boyd will receive CDA's Honorary Membership Award in 2007, the highest award conferred by the Association. This award recognizes an outstanding contribution to the art and science of dentistry or to the dental profession over a sustained period of time. “A truly worthy candidate, Dr. Boyd's story is an inspiration to us all,” says Dr. Deborah Stymiest, CDA vice-president. “The dental profession is richer for her involvement.” Dr. Boyd received honorary membership in the American Dental Association (ADA) in 2006. She is the immediate past-president of the American College of Dentists (ACD), the second female president and third Canadian to hold this prestigious position in ACD's history. Dr. Boyd is professor emerita at the University of British Columbia faculty of dentistry, where she has also served as acting dean. Dr. Boyd is one of the authors of the “Review and Revision of the Competencies for a Beginning Dental Practitioner in Canada” found on page 157 in this issue of JCDA.
