Cover Artist: Dr. Mary A. YurchesynThe cover art for the January JCDA is Backyard Skate, an oil painting by Dr. Mary A. Yurchesyn of Sydney, Nova Scotia. “With the arrival of crisp winter days, we all can reminisce about outdoor skating fun — thoughts of tingling toes, rosy cheeks and frozen noses,” Dr. Yurchesyn relates. “In Backyard Skate, I tried to capture the anticipation of sharing some skating fun with friends.”Dr. Yurchesyn has always loved drawing and sketching and has studied and worked with oil for more than 20 years. Her paintings reflect simple and heartwarming moments in everyday life. “I love to pour sentiment onto canvas with colour and simplicity,” Dr. Yurchesyn says. Her work is available in limited edition prints.
