Cover Artist: Dr. Jean MailhotThe cover art for the February JCDA is a replica of an 18th-century armoire, sculpted from pine by Dr. Jean Mailhot of Laval, Quebec.“I used materials and techniques from that bygone era,” Dr. Mailhot told JCDA. “I used tenons and mortises — and no nails at all. The panels were lovingly and patiently sculpted, one by one.” Each panel, he says, took 25 hours to sculpt. Dr. Mailhot started working with wood after his children had grown up. He loves the smell and texture of the material and enjoys the calming effect of working by himself in his workshop. A 1977 graduate of the University of Montreal's faculty of dentistry, Dr. Mailhot maintains a private practice in Laval, Quebec.
