The UBC, Faculty of Dentistry invites applications for two full-time faculty positions. The appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer. The successful applicant will primarily provide instruction to and oversight of students within the DMD curriculum focusing on clinical teaching, patient treatment and student clinical practice management. They will support and mentor 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year dental students as they experience the bulk of their clinical education in the UBC Integrated General Practice (IGP) clinic and affiliated Community/Hospital clinical settings. This will be done in collaboration with the following individuals: Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean/Director of DMD Curriculum, and other DMD Module Coordinators. The successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty members in the various educational divisions within the Faculty as a clinical instructor, clinical supervisor, and module coordinator. The candidate will help establish a strong patient-centered and evidencebased clinical curriculum for general practice that supports didactic and clinical skills taught in the discipline-specific modules. In addition, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the academic life and teach/supervise learners in the Faculty of Dentistry. They will be expected to be an innovative clinical teacher who will integrate technologies and new approaches to learning into our curriculum. The successful individual should possess exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work effectively and contribute within a team environment, and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Preference will be given to an individual with current and active experience in instructing, coaching and mentoring students in a clinical setting and those that operate from a solid understanding of patient care and dental practice. Through this position, the Faculty of Dentistry seeks to consolidate its position as the leader in Oral Health Research in Canada by aligning with Canada’s National Oral Health Research Strategy (NORHS, DOI: 10.1177/00220345241299360). The Faculty is seeking exceptional scholars to lead its research efforts in immunology and cell biology relevant to oral health and disease. Research areas of interest could include the study of connective tissue disorders, genomic/epigenomic regulation of oral disease, the development of novel anti-inflammatories, cellular therapy and/ or bioengineering-based approaches for oral tissue regeneration. The applicant must hold a PhD degree and postdoctoral training in a relevant field and solid understanding of oral and systemic immunology and cell physiology as well as expertise with “-omics” approaches relevant for oral health research. Evidence of skills in AI is a benefit. A DMD/DDS degree or dental hygiene degree is highly desirable, but not required. The successful candidate will be an emerging leader who can develop an independent research program and strengthen existing research and teaching excellence and also meet the goals of the Canadian National Oral Health Research Strategy. Several research groups in periodontics, oral biology, biomaterials and craniofacial development are currently investigating inflammatory processes in craniofacial development, tissue destruction and repair. The candidate will supervise the research of trainees at all levels including undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral. The applicant should have a strong record of independent, consistent and recent research productivity (first author or senior author) in the past three years in established journals. Evidence of previous grant or salary awards will be favourably considered. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and will build trust through an open, respectful and collegial approach and be an eager collaborator who can work in a highly interactive and productive manner with faculty, staff and students across the Department, Faculty and the University.
