Dr. Denis Vincent of Vancouver passed away on March 22, 2020, after contracting the novel coronavirus. Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, confirmed that this was the first death in British Columbia of a COVID-19 patient at home. Dr. Vincent was 64 years old. Dr. Vincent was a dedicated dentist who practised in North Vancouver for more than 40 years. CDA Essentials talked to three of Dr. Vincent’s patients and long‑time friends, Fardad Moayeri, Andre Kroecher and Trudel Kroecher. In the challenging times we all find ourselves in, they shared positive stories and anecdotes on their dear friend Dr. Denis Vincent. Remembering Dentistry Leaders Dr.DenisVincent “D enis had a patient-centred approach to dentistry— he was committed, dedicated, and caring. He really put the ‘care’ in ‘dental care,’” remembers Fardad Moayeri. “At his dental office, I always felt that he had my best interests at heart. He would always take the time to explain clearly everything that was happening with my dental care. Denis was very knowledgeable; I learned a lot from him.” Moayeri met Dr. Vincent 22 years ago. They quickly became friends, and so did their sons, as they attended the same elementary school, cub scouts and high school. Moayeri and Dr. Vincent both shared a passion for good food, music and skiing. “Denis was a great chef, a talented musician—he played the bass, the piano and was a great singer—and an amazing skier. It may sound silly, but to me, he was a genius. He approached everything with respect and passion and so he excelled at everything he did. Denis would often greet his patients at reception and would check in on their siblings, parents or extended family. Everyone loved Denis—his patients, his staff, his friends. They always spoke very highly of him. I loved him dearly. I miss him every day.” Husband and wife Andre and Trudel Kroecher have known Dr. Vincent as their dentist for 25 years. “Denis was an exceedingly compassionate, gentle and empathetic dentist,” says Andre. “He had a great respect for people regardless of their age, gender or professional status, and this could immediately be felt by the way he treated his patients. He was kind, generous O bituaries 30 | 2020 | Issue 3
