12 | 2018 | Issue 7 “We were delighted to come to historic Charlottetown and CDA extends a huge thank you to the DAPEI and the local Convention Organizing Committee (COC) for putting together an outstanding event that had something to offer for the entire dental team,” says Dr. Mitch Taillon, CDA president. “Although this was the first CDA Convention in P.E.I., I can tell you that many of us can’t wait to come back again!” he added. The convention attendees were fortunate to enjoy perfect summer weather at a picturesque venue. “The P.E.I. Convention Centre location was ideal, as you could look out the windows and see the ships in the harbour,” noted COC member Dr. Joanne Stewart. It was a well-attended event as the final numbers came in at over 1300 total registered delegates, including 650 dentists and auxiliaries. Several other dental organizations hosted events in conjunction with the convention, including the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Royal Canadian Dental Corps, the CDA/Dentsply Sirona Student Clinician Research Program and many others. “Having everyone on the Island gave the event a family reunion feel, making it easy to reconnect with old friends and make new ones,” said Dr. Michael Connolly, president of DAPEI. The convention had a good mix of continuing education (CE) and social events. “The CE program was popular and featured speakers from across North America who presented on their respective areas of expertise,” said Dr. Richard Holden, CDA Board member from P.E.I. and COC member. “Double Olympic Gold medalist Heather Moyse of Summerside, P.E.I. delivered an excellent motivational presentation and people took the opportunity to take photos with her and the 2 Gold medals.” One notable social event was a 5km Fun Run organized by Dr. Dana Coles of Cornwall, P.E.I. “The convention schedule was quite full, so most of the 30 dentists who ran in the race headed straight back to the hotel and conference sessions after the early-morning run!” she said.
